Interns who perform well and demonstrate a commitment to our values of integrity, creativity, teamwork, passion and excellence may be extended employment opportunities with Western Alliance Bank.The Summer intern will be a team member of:As part of Risk Management, the Financial Risk Management (FRM) team is at the center of keeping Western Alliance strong and resilient. We help the Company grow its businesses in a responsible way by anticipating new and emerging risks, and using our expert judgement to monitor and assess internal and external trends that could impact our company. Our culture in Risk Management is all about thinking outside the box, challenging the status quo and striving to be best-in-class. The Financial Risk Management team is responsible for ensuring the Balance Sheet risk profile is transparent to senior management, the Board of Directors and regulators. We execute on this framework by monitoring and assessing our funding profile, risk adjusted capital levels, and interest rate risk regularly while anticipating new and emerging risks.What we are looking for: Projects the intern might expect to work on:

• Capstone Project: Financial Risk Metrics - Peer Analyses - Comprehensive presentation with in-depth peer analyses and benchmarking using Bloomberg and S&P Capital IQ
• Projects: Liquidity, Interest Rate Risk, Portfolio, and Capital Risk Peer Analyses & Deep Dives- weekly touchpoints with each Risk Manager and Head of FRM to learn about risk areas and follow up on projects/assignments from each risk group
• Summer Readings - Bank Balance Sheet Management and Financial Risk Management, 2008/2023 Financial Crises with Case Studies
• Meet and Greets - FRM team and partners in Treasury, Enterprise Risk Management, Strategic Risk Management, and Model Risk ManagementIndividuals who are passionate and entrepreneurial, just like our clients. Specifically, we're looking for top-performers interested in pursuing careers in Commercial Banking.You may be a fit for the program if you meet certain eligibility requirements, including:
  • Undergraduate students currently enrolled in a related field of study
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Intermediate MS Excel/Powerpoint
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work productively without supervision
  • An interest in working in the Commercial Business Banking industry
  • Preferred: Basic knowledge of Bank Balance Sheet
  • Preferred: Knowledge of Bloomberg, S&P Capital IQ, Economics/Finance undergraduate major.To be eligible for this program, you must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis.
